Teen Money Talk Workshops/Mentorships
Teen Money Talk Financial Literacy Program equips underserved and overlooked teenagers (13-19) with essential financial skills through free 1-day workshop held several times a year followed up with a 6 month mentorship for qualified teens. Led by our experienced program director and dedicated team, we offer practical, real-life experiences and interactive activities to help teens transition into adulthood with financial confidence.
Key Workshop Topics:
1. Personal Finance Basics: Understanding finance, budgeting, and financial terminology.
2. Financial Goals: Setting short-term and long-term goals.
3. Saving and Investing: Exploring savings accounts and investment options.
4. Debt Management: Strategies for managing and paying off debt.
5. Banking and Credit: Learning about banking products and building good credit.
6. Financial Planning: Planning for life events and understanding insurance options.
7. Employment Skills: Job search and interview preparation.
8. Mental Health/Wellness: Healthy eating, exercise, and handling tough situations.
9. Real-World Applications: Case studies, financial news discussions, and hands-on exercises.
Our workshops are designed to be engaging and interactive, featuring guest speakers and real-life scenarios. Teens gain practical knowledge from budget shopping, preparing for college, entrepreneurship, careers, banking, and more. With the mentorship they gain real world hands on experience in these areas.
Program Impact
In 2023 in Atlanta GA, 100% of our participants were Black teenagers from low-income areas, with 67% being girls and 33% were boys. Feedback from these sessions led us to shift to more frequent 2-day workshops, enhancing retention and impact. In 2024 in Houston Texas 100% of our participants were Black teenagers. 85% were from low income areas. 85% being boys and 15% were girls. With doing several workshops in 2 different states we realized in order to make the impact that is needed we need to do more. This is why we added a 6 month mentorship program to dive deeper into financial literacy with hands on experiences.
Participation and Support
Registration requires parental consent. We measure success through participant surveys, sign in sheets, attendance metrics, testimonials and demographic tracking, sharing results with the community and funders. Our goal is to prepare at least 50 teens per workshop for a financially stable future, reducing risks like bankruptcy and poor credit.
How to Help
We are a 501(c)(3) organization, making donations tax-deductible. Volunteers and sponsors are needed in Atlanta, Indianapolis and Houston.

Thank you for supporting financial literacy for our youth!
Our first Teen Money Talk Workshop was a success. We had 14 teens from the ages of 13-17 in attendance.
Our Teen Money Talk Financial Literacy program aims to address the lack of financial literacy skills among young adults and equip teens with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed financial decisions and achieve financial stability.
Teen Money Talk had its first workshop in Houston Texas May 18th 2024. It was supposed to be a 2 day workshop but 2 days prior a devastating tornado hit Houston and surrounding areas. Leaving thousands of people without power including our team. The venue had power and we showed up for the teens.
We were able to educate 22 underserved teens on the importance of financial literacy, personal finances, life skills and mental health. The feedback was great. 75% boys 35% girls. 100% black.

Program Overview:
Feed The Friends (FTF) is a direct-service initiative by Building Up The Community (BUTC) designed to meet the immediate needs of the unhoused and others in need by providing meals, food and essential hygiene items. In addition to offering food, we distribute "Friends Bags" containing basic necessities such as water, toiletries, feminine products, socks, t-shirts, blankets, and sleeping bags during the winter. While the immediate goal is to address urgent needs, our long-term mission is to provide pathways to a better quality of life through partnerships and comprehensive support services like housing, life skills, education, employment readiness, and mental health therapy services offered through BUTC or our partners.
The Need for the Initiative:
The unhoused and displaced population continues to grow, and many individuals lack consistent access to basic hygiene, food, and safety. These need for sleeping bags and warm clothing are especially critical during winter months. FTF provides practical, immediate relief by offering meals and Friends Bags. However, addressing basic needs is only the first step. Many individuals require deeper support in the form of permanent housing, life skills training, mental health services, and job readiness. This initiative aims to not only feed and clothe but also empower individuals to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.
Problem Solved:
The initiative directly addresses the lack of food and hygiene supplies faced by unhoused individuals. By partnering with other organizations, we aim to solve broader systemic issues such as housing instability, lack of education and job skills, and unaddressed mental health challenges. FTF provides both emergency relief and long-term solutions to help reduce dependency on short-term assistance.
